Austin Bonsai Society

The Austin Bonsai Society is a non-profit organization to provide guidance and education for individuals who wish to expand their knowledge and skill in the art of bonsai.

The Society holds regular meetings on the second Wednesday of each month.  Our social hour begins at 7:00 PM, followed by our program at 7:30 PM.  We meet at the Zilker Garden Center building, located at Barton Springs Road in Austin, Texas.  We offer individual and family membership.  This membership include lectures, demonstrations, slides and other material.  The Austin Bonsai Society usually organizes several digging trips each year to collect native plant material, such as cedar elm and Ashe juniper.  Visitors are always welcome!

Since July 1987, we launched a separate Beginners Study Group to help our new members to enhance their bonsai skills and knowledge.  This meeting has evolved into our Monthly Members Hands On Workshop.  Our secretary operates a library of bonsai books and magazines, which includes several VHS format videos on bonsai development prepared by several ranked U.S. professional bonsai artists.

Each year, the Society holds a minumum of one public exhibition to showcase the bonsai collection from our members.  This event is being held in the Zilker Garden Center.

The Society also arranges nationally known bonsai experts come to Austin and conduct public workshops and demonstrations.  As a member, you will be able to participate in these events at a reasonable cost.  We distribute monthly newsletter to our members.

The cost of membership is presently only $30.00 for an individual and $35.00 for a family membership. Join today!
